Velocity managed five projects at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, including Buildings 3, 5, 50, and 280, implementing extensive fire protection and alarm system upgrades in occupied buildings ranging from 70 to 110 years old. The project required a comprehensive approach to meet modern safety standards, including review of existing drawings, on-site condition surveys, preparation of as-built backgrounds, feasibility and code compliance studies, construction document development, design filing with authorities having jurisdiction, bid review, construction administration, and project closeout for each building.

Velocity prepared designs for all new fire alarm systems across these industrial-use buildings. For high-rise Buildings 3, 5, and 280, the team also designed new Auxiliary Radio Communication Systems (ARCS) to support emergency communications.

In Building 3, Velocity completed a full fire protection replacement, including a new fire pump to serve both the renovated standpipe and a new sprinkler system, designed to accommodate maximum hose distances and the unique occupancy of each floor. Two new incoming water services with DEP-approved backflow preventers were also installed.

Buildings 5 and 280 underwent comprehensive fire protection renovations, which included new fire pump rooms with pumps serving combined standpipe and sprinkler systems, replacement of outdated sprinkler heads, coverage modifications to meet current layouts and occupancy requirements, additional fire hose connections, upgraded fire department connections to satisfy code, and new water services with backflow preventers.
