Velocity designed a new addition for the existing PS 206 Joseph F. Lamb School. Currently under construction, the project consists of a 58,000 SF, five-story building connected to the existing facility via an enclosed bridge. The expansion will provide 463 additional seats for students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and will serve as a state-of-the-art, sustainable learning environment. The building will achieve LEED certification and incorporate high-efficiency mechanical systems, green roofs, and a terracotta rainscreen façade.

Initiated by the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA), the project addresses overcrowding at PS 206, which currently serves approximately 1,500 students. Velocity provided full Architectural and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) design services for the new addition.

Following extensive planning, the addition was sited at the building’s east wing to ensure full accessibility and seamless circulation between the new and existing structures. The two buildings will be linked by a direct corridor. The addition will also include a public assembly space and a cafeteria that supplements the existing dining facilities while maintaining the original school’s spatial planning intent.
