This New Jersey Transit (NJT) station, listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places, underwent comprehensive renovations to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements while adhering to the Secretary of the Interior’s standards for historic preservation.
The project included the installation of four elevator towers, new elevated platforms with canopies, and accessibility improvements to the station building, platforms, and commuter parking areas. Technological upgrades incorporated a public address system, closed-circuit television, and dynamic Passenger Information Display (PID) boards, along with enhanced outdoor lighting for platforms and related exterior spaces.
Velocity developed design documents supporting modernization and accessibility improvements on both the East and West sides of the station. Our engineering scope included mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, electrical (lighting, communications, and security), and fire alarm system design, ensuring the station is fully accessible, safe, and operational while preserving its historic character.
